Things not so Edey peasy for Great Chishill
14:55 - 08 December 2009
Great Chishill 3 Papworth 4
A GARETH Edey hat-trick was not enough for Chishill as their defensive frailties were once again their downfall against Papworth.
The hosts started strong and deservedly took the lead after 10 minutes when Edey punished a mistake by the Papworth 'keeper and rolled the ball home.
Papworth responded well and turned the game around with two quick goals with well struck shots from just inside the area, and 2-1 soon became 3-1 with a glancing header from a long ball into the box.
Edey punished another defensive mistake to pull a goal back before half time to keep his side in the hunt.
The next goal was always going to be crucial and disappointingly for Chishill it was the visitors who got it with a 25 yard volley 15 minutes into the second half.
Chishill saved their best football until the last 20 minutes when they created some good chances when Peter Jackson had a lob desperately clawed away by the 'keeper, while substitute Luke Tyler saw his effort blocked on the line by a defender.
A consolation did come eventually with Edey's third goal but it was too little, too late for Chishill.

Chishill share the spoils of an eight goal thriller
10:52 - 30 November 2009
Great Shelford Reserves 4 Great Chishill 4
GREAT Chishill were involved in an eight goal feast for the second week running but unlike last week's 8-0 drubbing at the hands of Tuddenham Rovers this week they managed to take a share of the honours in a rollercoaster football match.
The visitors started well and made the best chances, but it was their visitors who raced into a two goal lead despite losing Ali Porter to injury.
After a patient build up, Gary Radford found space in the box to slot home the first before Lee Smith's chip into the box was lashed home on the half volley by Jonathan Drury.
At this point it looked like it would be a cruise for Chishill but they were pegged back before half-time as Shelford scored from 20 yards.
With their tails up, the hosts turned the game on its head early in the second half capitalising on two defensive mistakes to go 3-2 up.
Chishill responded by taking the game back to their opponents with some excellent passing football, but it was Elliot Drury's deflected free-kick that finally drew them level.
Gareth Edey then scored a superb solo effort to put Chishill back in the driving seat and they had chances to build on the lead while at the other end Shelford missed two open goals.
The scores were levelled eight minutes from time as Chishill's defensive frailties were exposed again as the hosts' striker racing through unchallenged and finishing well.
Gary Radford had a chance to win the game in the closing minutes but Shelford's 'keeper pulled off an outstanding save to keep the game at 4-4.
Great Chishill: R Drury, Jackson, Saward, Bennett, Gardiner, Porter, E Drury, Smith, J Drury, Edey, Radford. Subs: J Hodge, T Hodge.
Drury strike wins derby for Chishill
12:00 - 09 November 2009
Bassingbourn 0 Great Chishill 1
A FIRST half Elliot Drury strike was all that separated Bassingbourn and Chishill in a closely-fought local derby.
The hosts defied their lowly league position to create several chances in the opening 20 minutes and tested the Chishill 'keeper on three occasions including one which hit the post, but Chishill got their noses in front when Drury lashed a 20-yard shot into the bottom corner after being set up by Ali Porter.
Porter himself could have added to the lead before half-time but pulled his far post effort wide.
Bassingbourn started the second half as they had the first, with energetic forward play instigated by midfielder Sam Plumb and the Chishill defence had to be alert.
Both teams then had strong penalty appeals but both Nathan Davenport for Bassingbourn and Gary Radford for Chishill had their protests waved away.
A goalmouth scramble saw Bassingbourn's defence clear an effort off the line as the visitors looked to seal the game with a second goal, while substitute Lee Smith impressed in midfield on his Chishill debut with some good passing and tough tackling.
After six minutes of injury time the referee ended an entertaining game in which Chishill took home local pride and all three points.

Edey does it for Great Chishill
13:23 - 02 November 2009
Ashdon Villa 1 Great Chishill 3
A GARETH Edey hat-trick led Chishill to victory against a battling Ashdon side on Saturday.
The visitors were unable to break their habit of conceding early goals, though on this occasion it was somewhat unfortunate as a harsh penalty decision led to Russ Drury saving the Villa spot kick only for Simon Moss to scramble home the rebound.
Yet they were able to hit straight back when Edey hit a left-foot shot into the top corner from the edge of the box before both teams hit the crossbar with long range efforts before going in level at the break at one goal apiece.
The second half was a tense affair with both defences cancelling each other out, and a stalemate looked the likely outcome until Edey's class shone through as he ran on to a back pass, side-stepped the 'keeper and rolled the ball home.
Villa responded strongly, bombarding Chishill's goal in the last 10 minutes, but the back four marshalled superbly by Oli Gardiner held strong.
The points were secured when Edey ran on to a through ball and finished coolly with the last kick of the game.

Chishill come unstuck against Wilbraham
09:35 - 26 October 2009
Great Chishill 2 Wilbraham 4
GREAT Chishill failed to take their Creake Shield form of last week into the Junior Cup with a poor display against Wilbraham.
They were behind within a minute when a long ball was not dealt with and the visitors burst through to take the lead, and this early goal gave Wilbraham the confidence to dominate for the next 20 minutes.
Chishill were denied a chance to equalise when Gareth Edey was brought down in the area only for the referee to deem the challenge legitimate, and to make things worse for the hosts Wilbraham doubled their lead before half time with a long range lob.
Chishill looked lively after the break but the game was over as a contest when Wilbraham caught them on the break to add a third. They then grabbed a fourth from the penalty spot.
Chishill, however, finished strongly with Ali Porter curling in a consolation direct from a corner.
James Bennett then hit the crossbar with a powerful header before young debutant Adam Wright stabbed home another Porter corner at the near post.
Sadly for Chishill, the damage had already been done.
Chishill: G Wright, R Drury, Bennett, Gardiner, Bramwell, Jackson, E Drury, J Hodge, J Drury, Edey, Radford. Subs: T Hodge, Porter, A Wright.
Chishill cause shock in Shield
14:44 - 22 October 2009
Creake Shield
Steeple Bumpstead 0 Great Chishill 2
GREAT Chishill caused an upset in the Creake Shield as they overcame First Division opponents Steeple Bumpstead.
Although the hosts' movement caused problems at the start, Chishill were not intimidated, playing some neat passing football and coming close to scoring with a Jon Hodge effort.
The scores remained level at half time but the visitors went ahead early in the second half when Gary Radford's chipped cross eluded the Bumpstead goalkeeper and dropped into the far corner.
Steeple missed their best opportunity soon after, their striker somehow clearing the crossbar from three yards.
Radford punished their wastefulness when he rounded the 'keeper to score from a tight angle for his and Chishill's second.
Steeple threw everything at their Division Two opponents but the back four, marshalled superbly by Colin Saward and James Bennett, and goalkeeper Russ Drury, were equal to everything.
Jonathan Drury had a header cleared off the line at the other end but it did not matter as Chishill progressed to the next round.
Chishill: R Drury; Gardiner, Saward, Bennett, Bramwell; Jackson, E Drury, Hodge, J Drury; Radford, Edey. Subs: Porter, Williams.
Chishill shot down by Newmarket's young guns
11:37 - 12 October 2009
Great Chishill 1 Newmarket Town A 2
A YOUNG Newmarket Town team shaded an entertaining game against Chishill on Saturday with their movement and early pressure causing problems for the hosts.
The hosts conceded a penalty on 15 minutes but James Bennett pulled off a good save with his legs however Newmarket did make the breakthrough moments later with a follow-up goal following another Bennett save.
This sparked Chishill into life and Jono Hodge forced an excellent save from the visiting 'keeper but Chishill were unable to find an equaliser before half time.
Chishill made tactical changes at the break and played some good passing football in the second half but Newmarket were always a threat on the counter and Bennett was forced into several crucial saves.
There was nothing he could do though to stop a Newmarket striker from slotting home another quick counterattack with 20 minutes left.
The hosts pulled a goal back through substitute Gareth Edey and thought they had equalised through Gary Radford only for his deflected lob to be hooked off the line by a Newmarket defender.
Great Chishill: Bennett, R Drury, Saward, Gardiner, Bramwell, Radford, E Drury, Jackson, J Drury, Porter, J Hodge. Subs: Edey, T Hodge.
First half salvo wins it for Chishill
11:41 - 05 October 2009
Comberton United Reserves 0 Great Chishill 4
GREAT Chishill recorded a good in their first away match of the season but had a huge slice of luck to get them on their way.
After a scrappy opening 15 minutes they took the lead when Gary Radford's corner was punched into the net by the Comberton keeper.
Soon afterwards another Radford corner was headed in by a defender for a second own goal and Chishill were on their way to a comfortable win with Jon Hodge's link up play a particular highlight.
The game was sealed before half time when Ali Porter raced through to slot home his second goal of the season.
The second half saw a less energetic performance from Chishill as Comberton fought to get back in the game, but the hosts never really looked like scoring.
Elliot Drury had a close range effort blocked while Peter Jackson had a shot saved brilliantly by the keeper, but Chishill did finally manage a fourth when substitute Gareth Edey scored on his return from injury when running on to a through ball he beat the keeper with a sweet drive from the edge of the box with the outside of his boot.
Chishill: Bennett; R Drury, Gardiner, Saward, Bramwell, Jackson, E Drury, J Drury, Radford, J Hodge, Porter. Subs: Edey, T Hodge.
Late goals sink Great Chishill
12:42 - 28 September 2009
Great Chishill 2 Fulbourn S&S 3
GREAT Chishill went down to two late goals and ended up coming away with nothing at home against Fulbourn S&S on Saturday.
The hosts played poorly in the first half, allowing their opponents too much possession, and the visitors were worthy of their half time lead through a neat lob.
Chishill stormed out of the blocks in the second half with Jonathan Drury racing through to equalise in the first minute and with their confidence up Chishill were in control for the next 15 minutes and took the lead when Ali Porter drilled home a shot after his first effort was parried.
However, Chishill were unable to build on the lead and allowed Fulbourn back into the game in the last 10 minutes.
Two close range efforts put them back in the driving seat and Chishill were denied a point in the last minute when Fulbourn's keeper saved Porter's penalty.
Chishill progress in Creake Shield
15:09 - 22 September 2009
Great Chishill 2 Burwell Swifts 0
GREAT Chishill progressed to the second round of the Creake Shield with a hard-fought win over Burwell Swifts.
Swifts enjoyed a good early spell but a goal after 20 minutes for the hosts helped them settle.
Dan Manning was the hero, unleashing a 30-yard free-kick which took a slight deflection before nestling in the top corner of the net.
The visitors then had very few chances in the first half as Chishill defended strongly.
The second half saw the visitors come out much the stronger team and dominated possession for large parts of the game.
Still, it was the home side which created the better chances with Alex Porter's runs up front causing problems and he saw a good shot from the edge of the box saved by the keeper while Swifts' best chances came from dead ball situations.
Chishill grabbed a second when Tom Hodge nodded the ball down for fellow substitute Gary Radford to fire into the roof of the net from the edge of the box.
Swifts didn't cave in though and hit a post near the end, but it was Chishill who edged through.
Great Chishill undone by Cambridge University Press
14:10 - 14 September 2009
Great Chishill 0 Cambridge Uni Press A 5
GREAT Chishill were up against an impressive University Press side at the weekend but failed to deliver another performance like the season opener when they beat Bassingbourn 3-1.
Jonathan Hodge tested the keeper with a header before limping off with an injury, but Press went in two goals up at the break with a 20-yard effort followed by a goal direct from a corner.
The hosts offered little creativity in the second half, although Nick Bramwell went close with a header and Jonathan Drury hit the post from 30 yards, but three late goals from Press finished Chishill off.
Great Chishill: Davies, Lombari, Bennett, Gardiner, Bramwell, Jackson, Saward, E Drury, Williams, J Hodge, J Drury. Subs: Manning, T Hodge, R Drury.
